- Describe one significant idea or issue that has arisen for you, as you were engaging in the topics during Learning Experiences #1 and #2.
One issue that has arisen for me is trying to find new programs to use with my primary classes. I have used Pixie with them, and I’ve introduced some of the classes to the Britannica websites, but after that, I’m stumped. I don’t have a SMART board in the library, and while I realize that you can use SMART notebook, it’s not a very user friendly program for primary students who struggle with using a mouse J I’m hoping that as we work our way through the course, that more people will mention some programs/websites that they use.
- Elaborate on how specific resources, ideas or experiences in the Learning Experiences have contributed to your learning. e.g. reading material, course activities etc.
I think that the resource review activity was very beneficial for me. I was able to learn more about Mindomo and use it in a partnering activity with a couple of the intermediate classes. I had heard of the program before, but I had not tried it out. After seeing is on OSAPAC’s site, and completing the brochure, I was more comfortable using the program and introducing it to my students.
- Share how your participation in the discussion forums have contributed to your learning and connect this to your understanding of the Standards of Practice for the Teaching Profession.
The discussion boards are great for learning about new technology that is out there. There is so much available and it’s hard to find the time to explore, test, become familiar with the programs. By participating in the discussions and activities, I have been able to learn more about a variety of programs, especially those that will benefit students with special needs, and this helps my teaching program stay current and up to date.
- Discuss any outstanding questions and the steps you may take to further explore your interests as part of your learning in the course.
I’m curious to see if there are any recommendations about primary software to use. I’m hoping that some people will have some good suggestions/ideas in their staff manuals that I can look at and try out. A lot of the course uses Google apps/programs, which my school board doesn’t, but I’m hopeful that there will be a few ideas/suggestions that I can use.
